The F.P's have also been handed a home tie against East Kilbride in the 1st round of the Central Scottish League Cup, the winners of this tie will play either Pollok or Chryston in round 2.
Wishaw High School FP’s held their 50th Anniversary Golf Outing at Wishaw Golf Club on Sunday 13th September.
More than 50 players, ex players, committee members and associates of the club took part in a team Texas Scramble competition on a glorious afternoon last Sunday. The 13 teams produced an excellent competition that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone taking part and provided an extremely close finish.
The winning team of Bobby Colquhoun, Andy McLeish, Bill Hyslop and Tam Quinton only beating Andy Provan, John Dempsey, Paul Lewis and Scott Boyle on the best last 3 holes after posting the same score on both outward and inward halves.
Prizes were awarded for the top 5 places together with a Nearest the Pin on the 8th which was won by John Donnachie and the Longest Drive on the 18th won by Grant Murdoch.
The committee of Wishaw HSFP’s would like to thank Wishaw Golf Club for their assistance in arranging this event and are hopeful, given the success of last week’s competition, that this could become an annual event for the FP’s.
The main event in this year of celebration, is a dinner for all present and previous players. As large numbers are expected for this function, Colville Park Club has been secured for Saturday, October 31. It is anticipated that the cost will be either £20 or £25. More details of the event will appear here nearer the time.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to telephone one of the following organisers to secure their place at the event: Willie Thompson (01698) 383122; Jim Falconer (01698) 350198; Russell Clark (01698) 355075; or club president David Muir.
The event will take the form of a meal with either one or two guest speakers, and there will be plenty of time left over for a chat about games long since past. If anyone reading this knows of a former player who lives outside the area, but would like to attend either function, please get in touch with them and ask them to contact any of the above organisers. Attempts will be made to try and trace old boys, but the organisers have lost track of some veterans, so any help would be greatly appreciated
The manager is aiming for promotion next season after the club enjoyed a successful first year in the Foster’s Central league. Last term the club narrowly missed out on second place in Central Division 1B that would have put us into an end of season promotion play-off.
